The Campaign to Change Direction
A collection of concerned citizens, nonprofit leaders, and leaders from the private sector who have come together to create a new story in America about mental health, mental illness, and wellness. By bringing together this unprecedented and diverse group of leaders, the Change Direction initiative is sparking a movement that: frees us to see our mental health as having equal value to our physical health; creates a common language that allows us to recognize the signs of emotional suffering in ourselves and others and; encourages us to care for our mental well-being and the mental well-being of others. As a founding member of the Campaign to Change Direction, umttr supports the mission of the initiative and works to reduce the stigma of mental illness with the message #ChangeMentalHealth.
Sources of Strength
Sources of Strength is a best practice youth suicide prevention project that utilizes the power of peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture and ultimately prevent suicide, bullying, and substance abuse. The program is designed to prevent suicide by increasing help-seeking behaviors and fostering connections between peers and caring adults. Sources of Strength takes a different approach in youth suicide prevention, moving beyond a singular focus on risk factors and building multiple sources of support around young individuals with a focus on Hope, Help, and Strength.
The National Association of Mental Illness of Montgomery County (NAMI-MC)
A collection of concerned citizens, nonprofit leaders, and leaders from the private sector who have come together to create a new story in America about mental health, mental illness, and wellness. By bringing together this is a non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals living with mental illness and their families in Montgomery County, Maryland. Since 1978, NAMI-MC has provided support, education, and advocacy for people with serious and persistent mental illnesses, their families, friends and caregivers. umttr has partnered with NAMI-MC to raise awareness about depression and suicide, bringing NAMI-MC, school administrators, and student leaders together to introduce Sources of Strength to Montgomery County Public Schools.
The Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA)
A national nonprofit working to provide all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience in order to develop, "Better Athletes, Better People." For more information go to the PCA website. umttr supports the formation of a Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter of the Positive Coaching Alliance.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national non-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education, and advocacy. For more information go to the AFSP website. umttr supports the efforts and events of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. AFSP sponsors the research and production of materials for schools and other organizations that help teens with understanding suicide and depression.
